Future Prediction of Social Media

2 min readDec 31, 2024

As a man born in 2001, currently 23 years old, I’m the first generation to live in my teenage years with social media. In this last decade there’s been a great acceptance of such a radical change. At the start adults were generally aversed to the idea of “screen time”, until they too were hooked. Facebook was initially the most popular, then Instagram became more trendy, and Facebook became a web with old photos and adverts. Lately, in the past two years, I’ve observed a certain pattern in which many have opted to disconnect from Instagram, not to delete, but rather to “take a break”. There’s a solid growth in time dedicated to Spotify, with people having more or less organized playlists, and liked songs. While social media may be dense, listening to music is light and screams to a deeper aspect of our personality, and will persist time. No one describes listening to music as an anxiety-creating addiction, or a “waste of time”. The same goes, although in more niche social settings, to Pinterest, dedicated to creating a portfolio of visual art, it goes by waves, but I believe people will catch up to its depth. The social aspect of the internet, will probably be divided into various sections: basic Instagram profile with a resume of one’s life throughout the years, but less continuous activity, a Spotify profile that showcasts one’s music interest, a Pinterest profile that showcasts one’s visual aesthetic. It will also be extremely common to have a profile on a dating app, for “fun”, and in fun, most love stories will originate. That is my prediction for the future, 10 years from now, in 2035. Killing time on a train to Girona, about to celebrate the end of 2024, a crazy cool year. Love to you all, reggae in the background, xx.
